If you require medical assistance that cannot wait until the next surgery

  • Monday to Friday  phone the surgery on 01482 634004 and the answerphone message will give you details of the the duty doctor for the day.
  • After 6pm and before 8am on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and on all Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays, if you require medical assistance, which cannot wait until the surgery re-opens the following working day, please telephone 111 (Calls to the NHS 111 service are free from both landlines and mobiles)
  • Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

In a genuine emergency you should call 999.    Chest pains and/or sudden and persistent shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

The nearest A&E department is at Hull Royal Infirmary and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for EMERGENCY treatment.

When it’s less urgent go to a Minor Injuries Unit – your nearest is at Swinemoor Lane, Beverley HU17 0FA

Patients often attend the hospital Accident & Emergency department when they could be treated just as professionally and usually more quickly at a Minor Injuries Unit for:-

  • Cuts/grazes and lacerations
  • Sprains and strains
  • Back, head and neck injuries/whiplash
  • Broken bones (fractures)
  • Bites and stings (including human/animal bites)
  • Infected wounds
  • Insect and animal bites
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Minor head injuries
  • Minor back injuries
  • Minor eye infections, foreign bodies and scratches
  • Raised temperature/fever
  • Skin infections, rashes, allergic reactions
  • Urine infections
  • Wounds and wound infections
  • Urgent Treatment Centres are staffed by highly qualified nurse practitioners, who often have more experience and expertise in this kind of treatment than many doctors.
  • You don’t need an appointment to visit and the waiting times are usually much shorter than those in the emergency department as emergency staff must give priority to serious and life-threatening conditions.
  • Visit an Urgent Treatment Centre between 7am and 11pm, 7 days a week,  in Beverley,  Bridlington, or Goole.
  • You can walk into an Urgent Treatment Centre, however we always recommend you  TALK BEFORE YOU WALK by calling NHS 111.
  • Urgent Treatment Centre, East Riding Community Hospital, Swinemoor Lane, Beverley HU17 0FA. Tel: 01482 886600. Open 7am to 11pm – 7 days a week.
  • Goole & District Hospital, Woodland Avenue, Goole DN14 6RX.     Tel: 01405 720720.  Open 24 hours 7 days a week.

Pharmacies

You can obtain advice on common complaints from any pharmacist.  They will also give you advice on your medication and how to take it.

Urgent contraception

Women can get a pill for emergency contraception (the ‘morning after’ pill) from sexual health or family planning clinics, their GP or free from certain pharmacies (if under 25).  You can be fitted with a coil, which is far more effective. This can be done at family planning clinics.

If you need urgent advice, call the practice or outside normal hours, dial 111.

Urgent dental care

GPs are neither trained nor insured to provide dental care so if you require urgent dental care, in the first instance, you should contact your own dentist for advice and treatment if required.

If you are not registered with a dentist and find yourself in need of emergency dental care outside of normal working hours, please dial 111 for the NHS 111 service (available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year).
